The launch of Modern Media in 2004 introduced onto the Jordanian media scene an unprecedented endeavour: Jordan’s first commercial FM radio station, Play 99.6. Launched in full-scale a mere two months after the inception of Modern Media, Play 99.6 immediately became the radio station of choice for Jordanians. Prior to Play, English Top-40 radio had yet to make an impact in the Kingdom, and since it began, Play has inspired a plethora of competitors to create spin-off stations; none of which have been able to triumph over Play 99.6. Proving its influence on not only Jordan, but the region as well, Play 99.6 was the first station in the Middle East to operate using research based programming, and the first to employ state of the art research tools. What’s more, Play 99.6 broke new ground when they became the first and only station in the region to launch Pod-casts with other Middle Eastern stations now following in our footsteps.

With a target demographic of 15-25 year old listeners, Play has the highest recorded listener-ship of any English station in Jordan. This is partly due to its unique programming and modern style, and partly due to its undertakings in Jordanian society, outside the realm of radio.

Play 99.6’s innovation in regards to community betterment has garnered praise from local institutions as well as the National Association of Broadcasters. Corporate social responsibility initiatives that Play 99.6 has launched, such as Radio Star Search and the critically acclaimed Toys of Hope have invited praise from not only the NAB, but also from HM Queen Rania Al Abdullah. In 2007, the NAB awarded Play 99.6 with the International Broadcasting Excellence Award for its outstanding community service.
